The nominees are in for the Critics Choice Super Awards, with Spider-Man: No Way Home and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings leading the pack. The Critics Choice Association announced the nominees for the second annual awards for genre film and television with the two superhero films leading the film nominees at five each, while Paramount+’s Evil and Netflix’s Midnight Mass lead the television categories with five nods apiece.

Shang-Chi earned nominations for Best Superhero Movie, Best Actor in a Superhero Movie (both Simu Liu & Tony Leung), and Best Actress in a Superhero Movie (Michelle Yeoh), while Leung also was nominated for Best Villain in a Movie. No Way Home got nods for Best Superhero Movie, Best Actor in a Superhero Movie (Tom Holland & Andre Garfield), Best Actress in a Superhero Movie (Zendaya), and Best Villain (Willem Dafoe). Other Best Superhero Movie nominees were Marvel’s Black Widow and Eternals, as well as DC’s The Suicide Squad and Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

Far from only nominating superhero films, the Super Awards also have categories for other genres often ignored by the Oscars and the like. Best Action Movie nods went to Netflix’s hitwoman revenge film Gunpowder Milkshake and action-western The Harder They Fall, Ridley Scott’s The Last Duel, the Bob Odenkirk-fronted Nobody, Jason Statham’s Wrath of Man, and the final Daniel Craig 007 film in No Time to Die. Best Horror Movie nominations included Candyman, Last Night in Soho, Malignant, The Night House, A Quiet Place Part II, and Titane. Don’t Look Up, Dune, Free Guy, The Green Knight, The Mitchells vs. the Machines, and Swan Song are all up for Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Film.

On the TV side, nominees for Best Action Series include 9-1-1, Cobra Kai, Starz’ wrestling drama Heels, Kung Fu, Lupin, and Squid Game. Best Superhero Series nominees went to DC’s Doom Patrol on HBO Max and Superman & Lois on The CW, Netflix’s Lucifer, and the Disney+ Marvel shows Hawkeye, Loki, and WandaVision.

Best Horror Series will be a competitive category with Syfy’s Chucky, Peacock’s Dr. Death, Paramount+’s Evil, Netflix’s Midnight Mass, Apple TV+’s Servant, and Showtime’s Yellowjackets all battling for the win. Best Science Fiction/Fantasy Series nods went to Foundation, Resident Alien, Snowpiercer, Star Trek: Discovery, Station Eleven, and The Witcher.
