Spike Lee Responds to Donald Trump Calling His Oscar Speech A “Racist Hit”

February 25, 2019 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Spike Lee doesn’t seem too worked up about Donald Trump calling his Oscar speech a “racist hit.” EW spoke with Lee and asked him about the president’s tweet, in which Trump said that Lee’s speech was a “racist hit” because Lee told people to “mobilize” in preparing for the 2020 election.

When asked if he’d seen the tweet, Lee nodded and sighed, according to the site, and said with a shrug, “Well, it’s okee-doke, you know. They change the narrative.”

He continued, “They did the same thing with the African-American players who were kneeling, trying to make it into an anti-American thing, an anti-patriotic thing, and an anti-military thing. But no one’s going for that.”

Lee isn’t worried about that, and is instead looking to his next film. The director posted to Instagram with an update that you can see below, in which he says, “I’m on my way to LAX airport, I’m going to Thailand to shoot my new film The Five Bloods. BlacKkKlansman, that’s over. Like Jay Z says, onto the next.”

The Five Bloods will star Chadwick Boseman and is being made for Netflix. The drama centers on a group of Vietnam veterans who return to the jungle and attempt to put their broken selves back together in a story about the redemption of one’s soul.
