Stephen Colbert Mocks Donald Trump For Lying About State of the Union Audience
As we previously reported, the preliminary ratings for Donald Trump’s State of the Union address brought in a total of 47.7 million viewers, down from his speech to Congress last year. The final numbers showed that Trump actually had 45.6 million. That puts him below Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton. However, that didn’t stop the President from claiming that it was the highest-viewed speech in history. He wrote:
Thank you for all of the nice compliments and reviews on the State of the Union speech. 45.6 million people watched, the highest number in history. @FoxNews beat every other Network, for the first time ever, with 11.7 million people tuning in. Delivered from the heart!

Stephen Colbert wasted no time criticizing the President for his claims during last night’s episode of The Late Show.
He said: “First, that’s not true. Second, it’s a lie. Look. It doesn’t matter how many people watched. But what does matter is that the president needs to lie about it. And then somehow get away with it. This is the new world we live in.”
