Legendary’s upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie reboot is moving studios. The new reboot is officially moving to Paramount Pictures after originally being set up at Sony. Paramount Pictures will now officially release Street Fighter in theaters on October 2026. The live-action feature, based on the iconic fighting video game series created by Capcom, is currently in production.
Per an announcement from Paramount, the feature is being filmed for IMAX, and it will be the first film released through Legendary’s new global distribution deal with Paramount.
Paramount is promising that the new film will honor “the quarter-pumping, button-mashing spirit of the 1990s classic” while it will also level up “for a new generation of fans.” The studio also revealed that the new feature will be set in 1993, as estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits the duo for the next World Warrior Tournament, a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. However, behind the battle royal lies a deadly conspiracy that fores Ryu and Ken to face off against each other and the demons of their past. If they fail, it will be Game Over!
The new film is directed by Kitao Sakurai, and it’s set to feature the classic Hadoukens, roundhouses, and favorite characters of the game series on the big screen. Besides Centineo, Koji, and Liang, the film also stars, WWE’s Roman Reigns (aka Joe Anoa’i) as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes as Colonel William Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters as Zangief, NJPW star Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, UFC Champion Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, Kyle Mooney as Marven, and Mel Jarnson as Cammy.
Under Paramount’s new distribution deal with Legendary, Warner Bros. will still distribute select Legendary franchises, including the upcoming Dune: Part Three, which is currently filming and slated for a 2026 release, and also Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, which hits theaters in 2027, among others.
