Entertainment One has announced that they are at work on a Street Fighter television series. The company announced (per Deadline that Mark Gordan (Criminal Minds, Designated Survivor) will develop and produce an adaptation of the popular fighting game for eOne. Joey Ansah, Jacqueline Quella and Mark Wooding (the Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist web series) will serve as executive producers on the series.

The series will be based on Street Fighter II’s World Warrior storyline and will focus on Ryu, Ken, Guile and Chun-Li as they team up to take down M. Bison, the evil mastermind who runs criminal organization Shadaloo. Though on different journeys, our heroes’ paths will cross as they are drawn into the World Warrior Tournament, a competition devised by M. Bison to find the most powerful and capable fighter in the world. On the journey they come to share, they must draw on their strength, skills, intelligence and loyalty in a battle to survive and emerge as the World Warrior.

The series would be the latest adaptation of the gaming series, which has seen two critically and commercially-unsuccessful live-action films (Street Fighter in 1994 and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li in 2009) as well as the much better-received anime film Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. Street Fighter: Assassin’s Fist was released in May of 2014 via the Machinima YouTube channel and focused on Ryu and Ken.
