The 411mania Dumpster Fire of the Week

Hello, everyone, and welcome to the latest edition of The 411 Dumpster Fire of the Week. I’m Bryan Kristopowitz.

DolemiteIsMyNameCast

It took me two months of watching it 20 minutes at a time, but I finally finished watching Dolemite Is My Name and it was hilarious. If I had managed to actually watch the full movie in 2019 I would have included it on my “best movies of 2019” list. Every aspect of it is terrific, from the casting (the “real” Eddie Murphy is back), and Wesley Snipes and Craig Robinson are both brilliant), the soundtrack, the look of the movie, the list just goes on and on. It’s a shame that it didn’t generate more awards consideration.

Now, why did it take me two months to watch the movie? And why did I watch it 20 minutes at a time? It’s just the way it worked out. With everything else that I’m watching and following and writing about, not to mention everything else going on in my life at the moment, I’m lucky I was able to watch what I could when I could. I do hope, one day, to actually watch Dolemite Is My Name in one sitting, just to get the full effect of the movie at once. This process made me wonder, though, how many people end up doing something similar? Since Netflix essentially “keeps your place” when you stop watching something, I’d imagine that it happens quite often, at least for people who just don’t necessarily have the time to watch stuff in one sitting.

So how many of you end up doing the same thing, with Netflix or other streaming services (or, heck, with shows and movies that you’ve recorded via DVR)? And what’s the longest gap you’ve had while watching a movie? Days? Weeks? Months?

I’m afraid to start watching The Irishman. That shit might take me a fucking year to watch. Ha.

And now onto this week’s Dumpster Fire of the Week.

HillaryClinton

This week, the 411 Dumpster Fire of the Week goes to former First Lady of the United States, former U.S. Senator from New York, former U.S. Secretary of State, failed 2016 Democratic nominee for President, and new Dumpster Fire Hall of Famer Hillary Clinton, for her ongoing, very public vendetta against Bernie Sanders. I figured that her comments about no one liking Sanders, which were a big deal last week, would have been the end of the story, but it doesn’t look like this story is ever going to end. Clinton just isn’t going to let it go.

While promoting the new documentary about her political life at Sundance, Hillary, which is set to hit Hulu in early March, Clinton talked about what she apparently says about Senator Sanders and the 2016 Democratic primary campaign, how she and her female supporters felt assaulted by the Sanders team and the “Bernie Bros,” the senator’s male online supporters. They were hateful and mean-spirited and Sanders did nothing to stop them, according to Clinton. And Clinton believes that Sanders, a 2020 Democratic candidate, is essentially doing and allowing the same thing again. And then, when asked if she would support Sanders if he ended up being the 2020 Democratic candidate, she wouldn’t immediately say yes. She hemmed, she hawed, and then, eventually, sort of said that she would support the eventual candidate.

Yeah, sure you will, Secretary Clinton. Sure you will.

Look, we all know that you’re still super bitter about losing the presidential election to Donald Trump. We all know that you’re still pissed that you won more votes than Trump did and yet he still won the election. And we all know that it’s been hard having to live with the fact that you’ll never, ever be president. But is this really the best way to handle all of these bad feelings and issues and whatnot?

Of course it isn’t. It’s counterproductive to the political ideals and the movement you claim to support. And if you truly believe that President Trump is the worst president we’ve ever had, that a Trump second term would be a mega disaster for the country and the world, and that Trump needs to go, why isn’t that your focus? Isn’t all of that stuff more important to deal with than whatever scores you think you need to settle with Senator Sanders, who did support you and worked to help elect you, in 2016?

Well, it should be more important. But it sure as hell looks like you’ve decided that if you can’t be president, that if you can’t defeat Donald Trump, then no one should be allowed to defeat him. The world needs to suffer because you need to continue to mope about your own failure, which is what Secretary Clinton has done since she lost. Instead of accepting the reality of what happened, dusting herself off, and finding a way to beat Trump in the next election, either by running again or finding some other way to do it (like founding a think tank or some shit like that), she’s whined about what happened. And that’s all she’s done.

Now, her comments about Sanders and his supporters would be fine if she were running again or if she were acting as a surrogate for a candidate she’s endorsed, but that isn’t what’s happening here. She’s basically promoting a TV show. And she knows that since the political media, just like the scandal sheet gossip Hollywood media, is only interested in scandal and controversy that everything she says is going to be blown up and turned into an endless story. So, again, how does any of this help the overall cause that she claims to support/believe in?

It doesn’t. And that’s a shame. It isn’t surprising, though. We are dealing with a Democrat here. Democrats, “the Left,” leftists, liberals, progressives, whatever you want to call them. They do this shit all of the time. And this is why, in the end, President Trump is going to get re-elected.

And now for this week’s honorable mentions…

The “Liberal” Media, for its breathless reporting on whether or not the Senate trial of President Trump would have witnesses when it was obvious from the beginning that that would not be happening. . Would moderate Mitt Romney, Susan Collins, and Lisa Murkowski vote for witnesses? Would retiring senator Lamar Alexander vote for witnesses? While it’s true that Romney and Collins did, eventually, grudgingly vote for witnesses, there was no fucking way in hell Alexander and Murkowski were going to. Alexander, despite retiring, is and always will be a movement conservative and he isn’t going to break away from the machine, even if he personally thinks what happened was terrible. And the way Murkowski “struggled” with her decision, it was all just so much bullshit. What did she need to go over, again and again? It was all just so much nonsense. And yet there the “Liberal” Media was, acting as though there was real suspense to be had. Again, it was all just so much nonsense.

The Democrats, for for failing to call the Republicans’ bluff on Senate trial witnesses. Multiple Republicans suggested that, if the Democrats were allowed to call witnesses during the Senate trial, like John Bolton or Mick Mulvaney, that the Republicans should be allowed to call Joe Biden or Hunter Biden because “that would be fair.” Instead of disagreeing with that suggestion, the Democrats should have gone for it. The Democrats should have said “Fine, let’s do it.” It would have been enlightening to see all of the jack fucking shit Rudy Giuliani and other Trump enablers claim to have on the Bidens and their Ukrainian corruption scheme. It would have shown that “there is no there there,” that the President really had no case, and the Republicans were always corrupt enablers. But then that would have required some political and media imagination for the hopelessly inept Democrats, who are always at least two steps behind the right wing media machine when it comes to this kind of shit.

The Democrats, for claiming that the Republicans are going to “pay a price at the polls” for not allowing witnesses at the President’s Senate trial and for essentially enabling his behavior. Oh, please. The President and his fellow Republicans in the Congress will pay zero price for any of this. In fact, the Democrats will probably lose seats in the House, won’t gain any seats in the Senate, and will once again lose the presidency because they always look weak and they just refuse to organize and stay organized. So spare us all of the “history will remember” and “the American people will express their displeasure” crap. It’s just nonsense. The rules, the law, ethics, none of that means anything anymore. Power is what matters. If you’re unwilling to throw down with these ruthless motherfuckers then it’s over.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, for its new commercial hoping to end “speciesism.. Just read the story at the link. It’s goddamn insane.
