The Office Actor Mark York Passes Away
Mark York, who was best known for his role as Billy Merchant on The Office, has passed away. Variety reports that the actor died following a brief and unexpected illness at the Miami Valley Hospital in Ohio. The exact cause of death has yet to be confirmed. He was 55 years old.
York is best remembered as Billy, first appearing on the season two episode “The Injury” and appearing in four total episodes. Billy was the property manager for Scranton Business Park until Dwight bought it from him in the sixth season.
York got his start on the screen with a role in 1997’s romantic dramedy Going All the Way which starred Ben Affleck, Jeremy Davies, Rachel Weisz, and Rose McGowan. He moved to California after graduating from Anderson University in Indiana, where he graduated with three degrees. He had an uncredited role in A.I.: Artificial Intelligence and then went on to have guest starring roles in CSI: NY and 8 Simple Rules. He appeared in the C. Thomas Howell-starring 2007 film Fighting Words and the crime drama Profile.
