Thunderbolts* Director Jake Schreier In Talks To Direct MCU X-Men Movie

Jake Schreier looks to be sticking with the MCU, as the Thunderbolts* is circling the directing gig for Marvel’s X-Men film. Deadline reports that Schreier is in discussions about directing the official arrival of the famed mutant team into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The news comes after Thunderbolts* opened this past weekend and brought in $162 million worldwide in its first weekend. Schreier is said to be the studio’s top choice to direct the film, which was written by Michael Lesslie. It’s not clear how along the talks are.
Marvel has been taking pains to find the right person to direct the X-Men film and the report notes that the early reactions to Thunderbolts* led to Schreier’s elevation to the top of the list, along with the opening weekend grosses and the critic and fan positive buzz. Marvel executives are said to be well aware of how much of a fan Schreier is of the X-Men and he is said to have been turning down jobs in recent days, pointing to him taking the X-Men gig.
There’s no word on when the X-Men film will arrive or what characters will appear in it.
