Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker movie is hitting theaters in just over a month, and Phillips says he’d potentially be down for another if his star is. Phillips spoke with Total Film for an interview about the much-anticipated movie and was asked he would be interested in giving it a second go.

“One thing I will tell you: I would do anything with Joaquin, any day of the week,” Phillips said. “There’s nobody like him. If he was willing to do it, and if people show up to this movie, and Warners came to us and said, ‘You know what? If you guys could think of something…’ Well, I have a feeling that he and I could think of something pretty cool.”

The film has garnered plenty of buzz thus far ahead of its debut at TIFF and the Venice Film Festival. It is currently projected to gross in the $70 million-plus range for its opening weekend, and if it’s that level of a success you can imagine DC and Warner Bros. would be interested in a follow-up.

Phillips also touched on the film’s themes, saying, “I think there will be some 21-year-olds that go and watch it who just think it’s a version of a Joker story. And that’s fine, too. I don’t want to define it as this message movie, because it’s not. But it definitely is, the same way that The Dark Knight was not a message movie, but it definitely was a post-9/11 terrorist sort of ‘Oh shit…’ thing.”

The film hits theaters on October 4th.
