Paramount Pictures debuted the first trailer for Transformers One, the upcoming new CG-animated Transformers film, in space. The new CG feature showcases the origin story of Orion Pax (aka Optimus Prime) and D-16 (aka Megatron) of the Transformers Universe. Paramount rolled out a unique launch for the trailer by launching a craft into space on Thursday, April 18.
It started with a live-streamed countdown showing the journey into space. After one hour, the spacecraft reached its peak at 125,000 feet above Earth, revealing the trailer with a custom intro video featuring stars Chris Hemsworth (Orion Pax) and Brian Tyree Henry (D-16). The event was streamed on Transformers Movie social accounts, the Paramount Pictures YouTube channel, and Hemsworth’s own Instagram. You can view the debut trailer and highlights from the countdown below.
Transformers One is set on Cybertron, showcasing the untold origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron before they became bitter, sworn enemies. They were once friends bonded like brothers who would ultimately change the fate of Cybertron forever. The film stars Hemsworth, Tyree Henry, Scarlett Johansson as Elita-1, Keegan-Michael Key as B-127 (aka Bumblebee), Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne, and Jon Hamm.
The first-ever CG-animated Transformers movie is directed by Josh Cooley and is based on the iconic Hasbro action figure franchise. It debuts in theaters on September 20.
