Sony Pictures revealed a new first look vignette for the upcoming horror feature, Until Dawn, based on the hit video game. You can check out the new first look vignette, with comments from director David Sandberg, writer/producer Gary Dauberman, and actor Peter Stormare, below.

In the featurette, Sandberg reveals that the film will feature an iteration of the game’s mechanic of how it will have different outcomes depending on players’ choices. The film version will feature a narrative mechanic of an hourglass clock that resets, so the main characters will attempt to “try again” after they die. Each time the characters return to life, it’s like they are being thrust into a new horror genre.

Sandberg directs from a script by Blair Butler and Dauberman. It stars Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, Odessa A’zion, Maia Mitchell, Belmont Cameli, and Stormare, who reprises his role from the game as Dr. Alan J. Hill. Until Dawn does not yet have an official release date, but Sony announced that it will be released in theaters “soon.” Here’s the official synopsis:

“One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening. Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the nightmare again and again – only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn.”
