V: The Movie Officially Announced
A movie adaptation of the classic 1980s sci-fi miniseries V is officially moving forward. Desilu Studios has announced (via Deadline) that they are making a feature film adaptation of the miniseries, which focused on alien visitors to Earth with a mysterious agenda.
“We are delighted to team up with Desilu to bring the timeless – and timely – story of resistance against tyranny into the 21st Century,” said original creator Kenneth Johnson, who will write and direct the film. “V will be the first of a cinematic trilogy which will tell the full epic tale in the manner I always envisioned.”
The original miniseries was a huge hit when it aired on NBC back in 1983. It was followed up by a sequel in 1984 titled V: The Final Battle as well as a short-lived series in 1985 and a reboot in 2009 that aired on ABC. The mew film’s casting and a release date are not yet determined.
Desilu is making the film its first feature after being restarted. The studio was originally founded in 1950 by Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball as a television production company and was the studio home of the original Star Trek. It was relaunched last year by Charles B. Hensley.
