Warner Bros. Confirms New Gremlins & Goonies Movies, Beetlejuice 3 In the Works

Warner Bros. has confirmed that they have plans for new Gremlins and Goonies films as well as a third Beetlejuice film. The studios’ co-chairman/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy recently spoke with Deadline for a new interview, during which they confirmed that there are plans afoot for new entries in those franchises along with the widely-expected A Minecraft Movie sequel.
De Luca said that sequels to Minecraft and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will be developed “imminently,” noting, “The ink might not be dry on the deals yet, but imminently.”
Meanwhile, Abdy said, “We’re super excited about Amblin developing with Chris Columbus new entries in the Gremlins and Goonies franchises.”
The conversation comes in the wake of Minecraft’s heavy success; the movie has grossed $281 million domestically and $550.6 million worldwide in just 10 days, so it’s no surprise that a sequel to it is likely to happen.
A third Beetlejuice film would follow on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice being well-received by critics and fans and grossing $451.9 million worldwide against a $100 million budget. Gremlins hasn’t seen a new film since 1990’s Gremlins 2: The New Batch but has seen life on TV with the animated Gremlins prequel, whose second season Gremlins: The Wild Batch just released its second half on Friday.
Finally, a Goonies sequel was confirmed in February with Potsy Ponciroli attached to write.
