Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai

The Gremlins are back in an animated prequel, and it will be on the WarnerMedia Streaming Service. TV Line reports that the service, which is expected to launch next year, has given a series order to Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. The first season will run 10 half-hour episodes and will be written by Tze Chun (Gotham).

The series will take place in 1920s Shanghai and reveal how 10-year-old Sam Wing (who goes on to be shop owner Mr. Wing in the films) met young Gizmo the Mogwai. The synopsis notes, “Along with a teenage street thief named Elle, Sam and Gizmo take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering — and sometimes battling — colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.”
