Zach Cregger Confirms He’s In Talks For Weapons Prequel

Zach Cregger says talks are happening for the previously-reported Weapons prequel film. It was reported in August after the horror film’s breakout success that Warner Bros. was considering a prequel to the film that would explore the origin of Aunt Gladys, a pivotal character to the plot who is played by Amy Madigan. Cregger spoke with Fangoria and confirmed that discussions were taking place around the prequel.

“It is real and I’ve been talking to Warner Bros. about it,” he said. “There’s a story and I’m pretty excited about it. It’s not bulls**t.”

Cregger also confirmed that the story was one he already had ready and isn’t just an attempt to tack a film onto Weapons’ success, noting, “I was ready. I had it kind of in my pocket before the movie came out.”

Weapons stuck gold at the box office, grossing $149.7 million domestically and $263.5 million worldwide against a $38 million budget. Cregger is currently at work on a Resident Evil reboot for Sony, so no word on when the prequel might begin gearing up.
