Original Slipknot Drummer Joey Jordison Dead At 46

July 27, 2021 | Posted by Joseph Lee

Fans of the band Slipknot suffered a huge blow today as founding member and original drummer Joey Jordison passed away at the age of 46. Rolling Stone reports that Jordison died in his sleep, but a cause of death was not specified. His family will hold a private funeral service.

His family said in a statement sent to us by representatives earlier today: “We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician and artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26th, 2021. He was 46. Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow. To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart and his love for all things family and music. The family of Joey have asked that friends, fans and media understandably respect our need for privacy and peace at this incredibly difficult time. The family will hold a private funeral service and asks the media and public to respect their wishes.

Jordison was part of the original lineup of the band, back when they went by names like Meld and others before settling on Slipknot in 1995. Of the original members, the only one still with the band is Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan. As a member of the band, he recorded one demo record (Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat) and four albums. He departed in 2013, just before the release of .5: The Gray Chapter.

While there was initial confusion over his Slipknot departure (at the time it was cited as ‘personal reasons’, but Jordison maintained he never quit), Joey eventually revealed in 2016 that he suffered from Transverse myelitis, a neurological disease that prevented him from playing the drums. He managed to beat it and eventually formed the blackened death metal band Sinsaenum. He’s also played for the bands Vimic, Scar the Martyr and Murderdolls.

411 would like to give our condolences to his family, friends and fans.
