During last night’s AEW Dynamite, Adam Copeland beat Josh Alexander to qualify for the Clockwork Carnage match for the AEW World Title at WrestleDream 2026. According to Dave Meltzer on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Copeland’s slot in the match was originally meant to go to Jay White. However, Copeland replaced White in the qualifier due to White’s injury, and now he will advance to the title bout.

Meltzer explained (via WrestlingInc.com), “Jay White was originally going to be in it, but he got hurt, and Adam Copeland was not going to be in it, but because Christian [Cage] got hurt, they were going to be a tag team. But because Christian got hurt, they moved [Copeland] into it.” He continued, “So I guess Jay White would have been in the spot that Adam Copeland took. That’s what it looked like to me.”

As previously reported, Jay White suffered an undisclosed injury during his Tailgate Brawl match at AEW All Out. Also, during this week’s Dynamite, Copeland said that Christian Cage suffered three broken ribs and a collapsed lung during his match at All Out 2026.

Adam Copeland now competes in the Clockwork Carnage match for the AEW World Title at WrestleDream 2026. He goes up against reigning World Champion Will Ospreay, former champion Samoa Joe, Mike Bailey, Konosuke Takeshita, Kazuchika Okada, Ricochet, and former World Champion Darby Allin.

AEW WrestleDream 2026 takes place on Saturday, October 17. It will be held at the Addition Financial Arena in Orlando, Florida, and it will be broadcast live on pay-per-view.
