Adam Copeland will call it quits in the ring after next year, making the announcement on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite. Wednesday night’s episode saw Copeland cut a promo in the ring after he defeated Josh Alexander to qualify for the Clockwork Carnage match at AEW WrestleDream. He revealed that he will retire from the ring after 2027.

Copeland noted that the last few weeks have been rough and that Christian Cage suffered three broken ribs and a punctured lung five minutes into the World Tag Team Championship match at AEW All Out, but still finished the match. He noted that with Cage out of action he’s had to do some soul searching and said that he knows he’s aging out, and that 2027 will be his final year in wrestling. He said that he knows the fans don’t like that, but it is time and that’s why he has to take his shot at the AEW World Championship.

You can see clips from the AEW Dynamite match and post-match promo below. Copeland joins Ospreay, Samoa Joe, and Mike Bailey in the match, with four more set to qualify tonight. We’ll have an updated lineup for AEW WrestleDream after the combined Dynamite & Collision concludes.
