Showbuzz Daily has the overnight ratings for last night’s Wednesday Night Wars battle between AEW Dynamite and NXT. Dynamite managed to bounce back for Night 2 of the New Year’s Smash edition of Dynamite following last week’s show drawing a six-month low for the promotion.

Last night’s New Year’s Smash edition of Dynamite drew 762,000 viewers, gaining 100,000 viewers from last week’s audience of 662,000. Meanwhile, NXT lost about 90,000 viewers from last week’s New Year’s Evil show and dropped from 641,000 viewers to 551,000 this week.

Last week, the shows were overshadowed due to the violence that took place at the US Capitol in Washington, DC. The fallout for that event continued this week, and the US House voted to impeach President Donald Trump today. That news coverage likely still impacted the viewership for both programs.

The good news for AEW is that ratings did manage to climb upward this week. Last night’s episode finished with a 0.30 rating in the P18-49 key demographic, which increased from last week’s 0.25 in the same key demo. That number was the lowest rating for Dynamite since the June 24, 2020 episode.

NXT had a drop in ratings this week falling from last week’s rating of 0.16 for New Year’s evil to 0.14 this week, so AEW Dynamite still managed to more than double NXT’s rating.

AEW Dynamite finished at No. 31 in the Cable Top 150 rankings for the evening. NXT ranked at No. 70. The Situation Room on CNN topped the ratings for the evening with a 0.85. The Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC topped the viewership for Wednesday night with 4.765 million viewers.
