Alberto El Patron has found a new wrestling home, launching the new Mexican promotion LM52. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that a press conference was held in Mexico featuring El Patron. The former Alberto Del Rio is serving as the face of the company, which is promoting itself as the next big thing in Mexico and claiming they will go to the United States. Dr. Wagner Jr. is a co-lead in the company, which the two have launched together.
The promotion’s name reportedly stands for “Lucha Mexico 52,” the numbers being the international code for calling Mexico. The company is set to hold its debut show at the Interlomas Forum in Mexico City, a venue set up for an attendance of 857 people. LM52 has a TV deal with WBD Mexico, which previously had AAA until WWE moved the latter company to Fox Mexico.
Patron said in the press conference that he was “El Campeon del Pueblo,” the “People’s Champion.” He claimed that he had offers to go elsewhere, but wanted to stay in Mexico and restore the country’s wrestling traditions to what they used to be. He promoted himself as the greatest luchador of all time and his father as the greatest lucha family, claiming that his father Dos Caras and uncle Mil Mascaras were the first to leave and find success outside of Mexico. He noted that they will run shows in Monterrey and Tijuana, and will eventually run every major Mexican city, with plans in the works for a US tour.
The first show is set to take place on May 7th. The roster reportedly consists of Patrón, Dr Wagner Jr., Carlito, El Hijo de Dos Caras, Cinta de Oro, Chessman, Texano Jr, Silver King Jr, Metalik, Diosa Quetzal, Pig Destroyer, Saggitarius, Rey Mictlán, Hellboy, Noisy Boy, Vampiro Canadiense, and others per Wrasslin Talk Radio.
Patron teased the notion of a return to AAA back in January, saying that “It’s just a matter of time. But as far as wanting it -— of course I do. And they do too. That’s why we’ve always stayed in contact. All that’s left is for us to shake hands and make it happen.” Clearly, that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.
Patron has often said that there are plans for him to return to WWE, but WWE sources have consistently said that there are no plans to use him in AAA after they bought the company.
