On the latest episode of The ARN Show, Arn Anderson talked about whether he ever had to shoot on an overly aggressive opponent, and recounted the one time it happened — a stiff match with Buzz Sawyer. You can check out some highlights below:

On Whether He Had Things Get Real in the Ring:

“Not really, because I don’t think I ever did anything in the ring that would make anybody want to just suddenly go off. There were some guys I got a hold of, trying to wrestle them, who were so green they didn’t know they were making it very difficult for both of us. And it would be ugly.

“But the only one I really had issues with — believe it or not, one of the better workers of his era — was Buzz Sawyer. I ended up having to kick his teeth out on TV because he was beating the piss out of me, hitting me in the sternum. He was hurting me, and I asked him, ‘Buzz, you’re hurting me, lighten up.’ And he just disregarded it. I don’t know what he was mad about. I don’t think Buzz ever liked me very much. I don’t know if he thought I was getting too much too soon, or just didn’t like me, or whatever the deal was — or he was just an asshole.”

On Cardinal Sins in the Locker Room:

“A couple of things that are cardinal sins: you don’t steal, you’re not reckless, you don’t hurt people. And I mean injuring them, dropping them on their head, paralyzing them. You look out after the guys. That’s just one of those cardinal rules.

“When you leave that night, going to the next town or back to where you live, wherever you’re heading, you’re traveling along. And if you’re at the end of the night — and we always were — if you see a car on the side of the road, you pull over and make sure it’s not one of the boys.”
