Bandido says that wrestling in Arena Mexico at AEW Grand Slam was a dream come true for him, calling the venue a place that shows you’re a ‘real luchador.’ The ROH World Champion is no stranger to the famous venue, having competed there several times throughout his career. He reflected on the experience in an interview with Renee Paquette for AEW’s Close Up series.
Bandido, who teamed with Brody King and Hangman Page to win the AEW World Trios Championships, spoke about Arena Mexico’s importance to lucha libre in the interview. You can see the highlights below:
On Wrestling In Arena Mexico:
“Oh my god, this means a lot for me. You know, my dream was to be a wrestler from CMLL, from Arena Mexico. And now coming to Arena Mexico as an AEW wrestler is like, a dream come true, you know.”
On the Importance of the Venue:
“Arena Mexico is for a wrestler, like an achievement to be here. If you have a match here, you can say you are a real luchador. So, there is a lot of places — well not a lot, but some places in the world…. even, when you are in Japan, Korakuen Hall, Tokyo Dome; when you’re in the states, MSG, Madison Square Garden. It’s the same feeling to be here in Arena Mexico.”
