Big Cass recently opened up about his first run with WWE last decade, his partnership with Enzo Amore, and his departure in June 2018.
During a recent appearance on The Sal Licata Show, Cass detailed how his first stint with WWE alongside Enzo kicked off with a bang. He said that the duo not winning the tag team championship actually kept them hot for a longer period. Cass was later presented as a singles performer. However, it didn’t go as expected, and he was released from WWE during the summer of 2018 due to behavioral issues.
Cass took accountability for the way his first run with the promotion ended, admitting that he was dealing with personal battles at the time and had to go away and start from scratch. The former AEW talent also revealed that he’s currently in the best shape of his life. Here’s what he said:
On his partnership with Enzo Amore
“Yeah, I mean, the first run started off with a bang. I mean, we debuted on RAW, and everyone knew every word to everything we said. So immediately, we’re stars in the viewing audience’s mind. The first run was awesome; me and Enzo were really hot items, sold a lot of merch, had a lot of fun, worked with some really great tag teams. Never won a tag title. I always thought that was kind of a good thing. I think that kind of kept us hot because it was kind of like in the viewing audience’s mind, like, looking behind the fourth wall, like, ‘Why are you not rewarding these guys with something?’ I think that kept us even hotter for longer. Really great run with Enzo.”
On his previous failed stint as singles performer
“Singles run obviously, you know, I had some personal issues and personal battles, so that kind of derailed a lot of my solo career at that point, and I really just had to go away and rebuild myself and start back from the bottom. So the first run was magical, absolutely magical; it couldn’t have gone better. The ending was not what I would have hoped, and that’s on me. Things that I had to take accountability for and fix, go away and get that done and then come back.”
Big Cass says he’s in the best shape of his life
“Mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally, where the best I’ve ever been. In the best shape of my life, the healthiest I’ve ever been, you know, physically diet-wise, just doing everything right and treating my body like a temple, treating my body how it needs to be treated, treating my brain how it needs to be treated, and kind of making sure that my brain is healthier than everything else. So you got to, if this ain’t working properly, everything else is going to fall apart. So yeah, I’m at the top of my game in terms of everything where, where I need to be right now.”
Elsewhere in the same interview, Big Cass commented on recent speculations about how WWE views him. More on that HERE.
