Big Cass Says WWE Return Being Linked To Enzo Amore Made Things Harder For Him
Big Cass says coming back to WWE after his tag team success there made things tougher for him, especially with Enzo being linked to his return. It was initially reported back in May that WWE was interested in bringing back both men, though there was never a report that Enzo had signed on. Enzo is said to be still interested in returning (and of course that has not happened). Meanwhile, Big Cass made his return in July and has been working as a singles heel, occasionally working with Ethan Page.
Cass was asked on The Sal Licata Show whether his previous run with Enzo as a tag team made it harder to come in as a singles guy. Cass said it did, as people often call out his old catchphrases in the crowd. He also noted that the initial reports of a potential return with Enzo complicated things by confusing some fans. You can see highlights below:
On His Tag Team Run Making It Harder To Return As a Solo Act:
“It definitely does, yes. because I’m coming back into WWE as a heel, right? I think we could talk about like heels and faces on your show, I’m pretty sure. I’m coming back as a heel and the last time anybody that in that viewing audience saw me, I was in one of the hottest babyface acts in the company. Top three, I would say, at that time. And you argue with a wall if you don’t agree with that. I would say at that point, we were top three babyface act in the entire company.
“And now I’m coming back by myself as a heel. It makes things a lot harder. You go out there as a heel and people are booing you, but you do hear people in the crowds saying the old catchphrases at me. And I think they’re doing that to get under my skin, and I think that’s their true intention, which as a heel is a good thing.”
On the Reports Of Enzo’s Return Also Complicating Things:
“But yes, to answer your question, it’s a lot. It makes it way more difficult than having a clean slate. Especially because when news came out of me signing with WWE, it immediately got linked to him. ‘They’re coming back together; they’re going to be running it back together.’ A lot of podcasts ran with that story, and people believed it. So then I come back on my own and some people like, ‘Wait, what?’
“And so it kind of made it a little difficult, but I think so far I’ve done a pretty damn good job in the situation I’m in, getting booed out of buildings — which is really the goal.””
