Former WWE Champion Big E has not wrestled since suffering a career-threatening neck injury during a tag team match on SmackDown in March 2022. Nearly four years on, the former New Day member has now transitioned to being an analyst at WWE Premium Live Events.
It’s a role that Big E seems perfectly fit for, and it’s not a surprise that he is having a “blast.” While fans continue to hope against hope that he’d return to the squared circle someday, for now, Big E is focused on other things and is effectively retired.
During a recent interaction with Compas on the Beat, the 39-year-old reflected on his successful transition from being a pro wrestler to an analyst. Big E admitted that it is not something that he envisaged when his in-ring career was nearing its end, but it’s something he is really enjoying now and believes that it’s preparing him for other roles in broadcasting.
Big E stated, “It’s been good. It’s something I really enjoy, something I didn’t think I necessarily was going to do when my career was over. But it’s been a blast, man! I get to be a part of what we’re doing in WWE and do it in a different way. I’ve really enjoyed being a part of helping people be more informed about what they’re about to see or what they just saw.” The former WWE Champion added, “And it’s helped prepare me for other roles in broadcasting as well. So not something I had on my radar when my career was wrapping up, but I’m really enjoying it.”
When asked if his in-ring career was effectively over, the former WWE Champion said, “I’m content. You know, in wrestling, they always say, ‘Never say never.’ But right now, I’m retired, and that for me is it. So I’m focused on other things right now.”
