WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green recently reflected on her emotional segment with SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, expressing her gratitude toward Aldis for helping her write the promo.

At SummerSlam 2026, Green did the unthinkable, as she won a Fatal Five-Way Ladder Match to become the Interim Women’s Champion. However, she suffered an orbital bone injury during a tag team match on the subsequent SmackDown, putting her status as champion in jeopardy. A week later, Aldis asked Green to hand over the championship belt. In response, a visibly emotional Chelsea touched upon her years of hard work and her doing everything asked of her to entertain fans.

The Canadian asserted that she won’t give up the title until someone takes it off her. She did hand over the belt to Nick and left the ring, prompting Aldis to give Chelsea 30 days to receive medical clearance and defend the championship. Green was ultimately cleared to compete, and she retained her gold against Nia Jax last Friday. During a recent appearance on the Notsam Wrestling podcast, Chelsea addressed her segment with Aldis and how it came into being. Here’s what she said:

On her segment with Nick Aldis

“It was definitely bigger than whatever was to come. I think we all felt where it was going that week after SummerSlam, where I had a very lame promo, and it kind of led into a couple of lame moments. Then, that broken orbital bone was the best thing that could’ve ever happened to me because of that promo.”

Chelsea Green thanks Nick Aldis for helping her write her promo

“Nick and I spent a lot of time on that promo. I’m very thankful for Nick Aldis because he helped me write that one, and he helped me write the follow-up a couple of weeks later. It hit because we were able to go through the emotions and change of pace and the ride we wanted to take them on. ‘What’s the angle? How do we get there making them think we’re going to take it off me?’ That’s the crucial moment in that promo.”

The segment eventually led to Gunther coming out and trash talking with Green, prompting Matt Cardona to confront the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Gunther made short work of Cardona in an impromptu match to close out the segment.
