Chelsea Green Says WWE Women’s Title Win Made All Her Sacrifices Worth It

Chelsea Green says her WWE Women’s Championship win was “surreal” and made all the sacrifices she’s had in her career worth it. Green won the Interim Women’s Championship at WWE SummerSlam night two, her first world title in the company. She suffered an broken orbital bone during the six-woman tag team match on Friday’s Smackdown, though it’s not known what this means for her reign going forward.
Before that, Green spoke with Nicole of XTU Philadelphia about her win and what it meant for her, noting that it made all the work she’s put in feel worth it. You can see the highlights below:
On Finally Becoming Women’s Champion:
“It has been surreal. I feel like the moment that I grabbed the title and pulled it down, and the crowd went nuts and kind of everything changed for me. It’s just been 13 years in the making. Thirteen years of blood, sweat, tears, of missing funerals and weddings and birthdays and all sorts of things. And it just it feels so good, because everything it was worth it.”
On the Sacrifices She’s Made In Her Career:
“Yeah, people do not realize like we are not like an NFL team or an NBA team, or an NHL team. We do not have an off-season, we work 365 days a year. We travel every single week, multiple times a week. We only get time off if we’re injured, which obviously that’s not great either. So you know, I have been doing this now for 13 years, and I truly — I’ve got very few days off in my career. It’s a lot of sacrifice. But like anything, if you if you love it, if you’re passionate about it, it doesn’t hurt so bad.”
On All the Sacrifice Being Worth It:
“It does [feel rewarding to win the title]. And it truly does feel like everything happened at the perfect time in Minnesota, at SummerSlam with my my family ringside, my husband ringside. I could not have asked for a better full circle moment. If I were to close the book that is WWE, or that is professional wrestling or whatever it is, I would I would be so happy doing that today because of this moment.”
