A hearing was held today in regard to the battery charges against WWE’s Ludwig Kaiser, with a continuance motion filed. PWInsider reports that during the pre-trial hearing on the charges, Kaiser’s laywer filed a motion to continue the proceedings until August 27th.
A continuance is a request to delay the matter. The lawyer for Kaiser also filed a waiver to the WWE star’s right to a speedy trial which means that the trial does not need to happen within a certain timeframe.
Kaiser was arrested, Kaiser in May following an alleged altercation in his Orlando apartment building elevator that resulted in Kaiser punching a fellow resident outside the elevator after the resident complained about Kaiser’s “uncontrollably intimate” elevator behavior with his girlfriend.
Kaiser’s side of the story was reportedly that the person said something to the effect of “you need to show some f**king respect before I call ICE on that bitch” and that there was a scuffle, but no punches were thrown.
Kaiser filed a motion on Wednesday to dismiss the charges against him. He argued that his actions constituted lawful self-defense and qualify for statutory immunity under state law.
The judge has yet to rule on the motion to dismiss. The next hearing is set on August 27th, with the court expecting the trial to begin in September.
