UPDATE: Well, now it’s official. WWE has released a statement confirming that Dean Ambrose will be leaving the company once his contract expires in April. The statement reads:

“Dean Ambrose (Jonathan Good) will not be renewing his contract with WWE when it expires in April. We are grateful and appreciative of all that Dean has given to WWE and our fans. We wish him well and hope that one day Dean will return to WWE.”

PWInsider reports that the deal WWE offered Ambrose was a five-year one, worth slightly more than seven figures per year.

UPDATE: The WrestleVotes Twitter account has also commented on the news of Dean Ambrose looking to leave WWE later this year. The account claims that Ambrose was involved in the rumored big surprise for last Sunday’s Royal Rumble event, but those plans were changed because Ambrose is now looking to leave. You can check out that tweet below.

According to WrestleVotes, the big surprise the account said was planned for the show actually involved Dean Ambrose. However, Ambrose apparently opting to leave ultimately changed the plans at the last minute. Whatever the big plan or surprise was supposed to be is left unsaid. As always, take the news with a grain of salt.

On Monday’s edition of Raw, Dean Ambrose was attacked by Nia Jax.

ORIGINAL: PW Torch reports that Dean Ambrose is expected to leave the WWE when his current contract expires, which means he will be done after Wrestlemania in April. He gave notice to WWE this past weekend, including in a meeting with Vince McMahon. Ambrose, a former WWE Champion and one of the few to get the Grand Slam achievement, turned down a new contract that included a raise weeks ago.

It’s believed that he will be done just after WrestleMania, but WWE could write him out of storylines sooner. Ambrose’s last appearances saw him get eliminated by Aleister Black in the Royal Rumble and then lose to Seth Rollins the next night on RAW.

Ambrose has reportedly been frustrated with the creative decisions regarding his character. He told management that he’s not interested in any more negotiations and added that he wasn’t looking to get more money. A source from the roster said that Ambrose is “pretty much impossible to read” but he “hates hokey shit.” Apparently Ambrose hit his breaking point recently and made the decision to go. Management in WWE and a small group of his friends knew he was leaving but it wasn’t known by the majority of his co-workers.
