More Details on Owens and Zayn Being Sent Home After Tuesday’s Smackdown
– It was reported yesterday Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn were sent home from the Smackdown side of the ongoing WWE European tour. Owens and Zayn were sent home for disciplinary reasons for “conduct deemed detrimental” to the company after going off script on Smackdown.
Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio (via wrestlinginc.com) that the Zayn vs. Kingston match and finish went as planned, but the issue was the post match, where Owens and Zayn left instead of staying and feeding for a New Day attack. Some sources say that this was a complete miscommunication, and it’s not like Owens and Sami refused to get beat up by The New Day. There were reportedly no issues related to Owens and Sami being mad about putting The New Day over. The issues were reportedly over the two being expected to get beat up after the match, which was supposed to build their feud to a tag team match next week at Smackdown in Charlotte, NC. Sami and Owens were told to leave the arena, go back to the hotel and fly home. Nothing is official on their status, and the two could be back as soon as Tuesday’s Smackdown in Charlotte.
Meltzer did note that there was editing to the opening segment, but it wasn’t anything Owens or Zayn did wrong. Shane McMahon was booed when he mentioned Daniel Bryan returning next week, which flustered him until he realized that fans were booing because they wanted Bryan there that night, leading to an edit. There was also a mention of “men of honor,” and some believed that was a reference to Ring of Honor and led to the editing, but that was not the case.
