Eli Knight is one step closer to a date with Jasper Troy for the WWE Men’s Speed Championship, winning a #1 contenders tournament match on this week’s WWE NXT. Tuesday night’s show saw Knight battle Josh Briggs in the latest Speed Championship mini-tournament. The two went back and forth during the match, with Briggs using his strength-based offense while Knight countered with high-flying offense.
Knight ultimately picked up the win after hitting a superkick and a flying boot, followed by a moonsault for the pinfall. You can see highlights from the match below.
After the match, Knight’s opponent in the finals came out in Elio LeFleur, who beat Charlie Dempsey on last week’s show to advance. The two went to shake hands and Troy attacked them both, laying them out.
The finals of the mini-tournament takes place on next week’s episode of WWE NXT. The winner goes on to challenge Troy on the February 24th episode of WWE NXT in Atlanta, Georgia.
