Finn Balor credits WWE for being a better and safer place to work than it was 15 to 20 years ago. Balor appeared on Nina Drama’s Kick stream for the recent Zuffa Boxing event, and during the conversation he was asked about whether he’s seen Nacho Libre.

Balor credited the film for being “very funny” and then mentioned The Wrestler, using it as an point of reference to show how WWE has become safer than the era of that 2008 film. The Wrestler, of course, starred Mickey Rourke as Randy “The Ram” Robinson, an aging wrestler on the way down who is working in the independent scene as he tries to reconnect with his daughter. Rourke was nominated for Best Actor at the Oscars, but lost to Sean Penn for his titular role in Milk. You can see the highlights below:

On Whether He’s Ever Seen Nacho Libre:

“I have, yes. It’s very, very funny.”

On WWE Becoming a Safer Workplace:

“And also, another wrestling movie is The Wrestler, which is — it’s very serious and kind of dark, but frighteningly real. Frighteningly real. And thankfully, that’s kind of based on a time — probably about 15, 20 years ago. Thankfully, WWE has, you know, changed over the recent years, and it’s a much better place and safer work environment for the boys, so we’re very grateful for that.”
