AEW star Harley Cameron has had an amazing year as a professional wrestler. Her character work has been really good, and over the past 12 months, she has worked with some of the top names in the business, including Mercedes Mone.

Cameron and Willow Nightingale recently won the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship, defeating Toni Storm and Mina Shirakawa in the final. In a recent appearance on the Good Karma Wrestling podcast, Cameron revealed why she decided to pursue professional wrestling. She also opened up about AEW’s working environment, crediting it for her immense growth and success over the past 12 months.

Below are the highlights:

On why Harley Cameron decided to pursue pro wrestling:

“When I first got to America, I had no idea what I was going to do. I kinda came here with a hope and a dream. I saw an independent show in Orlando, and instantly, I just knew. I said, ‘This is what I want to do. 100%, this is what I wanna do,’ and there’s been no looking back. I knew I was, like, ‘This is what I wanna do in life. It’s funny, like a lot of people say, ‘Why are you doing this and not everything else?’ But I’ve had a great, wonderful, fruitful career in other entertainment fields, and nothing makes me feel the way I feel about wrestling. It’s something I can’t explain. I just know my heart is in it. From a very young age, I’ve been putting on a show. My mother knew it from when I was a little girl, and then I saw the videos, and I thought, ‘Oh,’ and there was no hope. I was destined to be in everyone’s faces one way or the other.”

On how AEW’s competitive locker room has helped her improve

“Working with people that are more experienced than me, that, you know, have better ability than me, has been comparative for my growth, and I honestly will say that’s why I feel I’ve had such a spectacular year—because I’ve been able to work with such amazing people and learn from people who have so much experience and knowledge, and it’s like a big community where we are all helping each other. And then, when you get to work with someone, you get to learn, and you learn from your trials and mistakes. That’s the cool thing about wrestling: every single match is a chance to better yourself.”
