Hiroshi Tanahashi says that he’s looking into finding ways that retired NJPW stars can continue to contribute to the company going forward. The NJPW president had his retirement match at Wrestle Kingdom 20 in January, and soon Tiger Mask IV and Hiroyoshi Tenzan will join him in hanging up the boots.

Tanahashi spoke about retiring talent during his conversation with Planeta Wrestling and said that he’s looking to “analyze” how retiring wrestlers of his generation can continue to be involved in the company.

“From Wrestle Kingdom in January to Dominion in June, I think there has been a fantastic atmosphere and ambiance around NJPW,” Tanahashi said. “As the second half of the year, the immediate target in the ring will be the success of the G1, and outside of it, one aspect that I would like to analyze is how other retired wrestlers of this generation, such as Tiger Mask and Hiroyoshi Tenzan, can better contribute to NJPW in the future.”

Tiger Mask will have his final match on July 7th and then undergo back surgery. Tenzan will retire from the ring on August 15th.

Since retiring, Hiroshi Tanahashi has continued to work in his capacity as president of NJPW. He made an appearance at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door, coming out to celebrate Shota Umino’s successful IWGP Global Heavyweight Championship defense against PAC.
