Jazmyn Nyx recently defended her boyfriend Bryton Constantin over a past video in which he seemed to mock a disabled child. The former WWE NXT star appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show for a new interview on Tuesday. During the interview, Nyx was asked about the livestreamed video from April where she and Constantin were at Disneyland. Constantin walked over and high-fived a kid and as he walked away, said, “Oh my god, he f**king growled at me. He just growled at me like a f**king dog.”

The video went viral online and Constantin, who has appeared on Squid Game: The Challenge and Perfect Match, was accused of mocking a disabled kid. Nyx appeared to be laughing in the video. She explained the matter in Tuesday’s interview, and you can see highlights below:

On Getting Criticized Over the Situation

“Yeah, a lot a lot came my way. But obviously, like I said, I don’t really answer things on social media. So I never came back and said my side of my story for any of these things, because I know how they’re taken and misconstrued. Obviously, words hold a lot of weight and actions do, too. So I kind of have been waiting for an opportunity like this to say my side, or my piece.

“But yeah, no. I think that a lot of things on social media are one construed, misconstrued, taken different ways, clipped. Like a lot of things are clipped. And me knowing also, like obviously if I knew if there was certain things that questioned my boyfriend’s character and what he did, I wouldn’t be with him.”

On the Reaction From People Online:

“And that’s what I think — obviously, people not knowing who I am, they’re like, ‘Oh, well, why would she stay with this person if he’s doing all these bad things?’ I already know his character, and I already know certain things he’s done do look bad, and have been taken bad. But they’re not what they seem, if that makes sense?”

On the Clips Being Taken Out of Context:

“So for example, that situation, he actually — that was a truthfully, going out of his way to be nice situation… so in terms of him going up and giving a high five to the little boy, he was genuinely going up and giving a high five to him. Nothing bad, he wasn’t making fun of him. It was just clipped. So things that he was saying were clipped right after that was happening.

“And things — like people were like, ‘Oh, she’s laughing at him.’ Absolutely not. I would never do that in a million years. I’ve I’ve never made fun of anyone. I’m not that type of person. And neither is he. It’s just clipped like that. And he’s an outgoing, social person. So whenever he’s talking about things, he comes off like that. But it’s not what it seemed to be.”

On Constantin:

“He’s worked with autistic kids. He has nothing bad to say about anyone. So that’s why I knew like it was just — bad things were one, taken out of context. Two, things that were said… words that are said are taken completely different ways that you don’t mean them to be said. So actions that he’s done, words he said obviously could have been changed. He could have said different things, done different things. But in terms of like his character, that’s not him.”
