Jazz On How Her Retirement Speech On Impact Happened, Credits Tommy Dreamer

Jazz announced her retirement on TNA Impact in 2021, and she recently recalled how that came about. The women’s wrestling legend appeared on the April 15th, 2021 episode of Impact. She announced her retirement from the ring after a short run with the company in which she teamed with Jordynne Grace.

Jazz had actually retired six months earlier on Chris Van Vliet’s podcast. In an interview with Ring the Belle, she noted that Tommy Dreamer reached out to her after her initial retirement and got her to appear for a run so she could retire in a more grandiose way. You can see highlights below:

On Her Retirement Announcement On Impact:

“[I] was not expecting this. In fact — you know, I had announced my retirement way before the TNA, the Impact moment here. And Dreamer reached out and said, ‘You will not announce your retirement on a podcast. You will have your retirement ring in the ring, and have your moment the way you should have it.’ And he invited me to Impact, and I continued to have my retirement time in Impact.

“And lo and behold, I thought it was going to be a week. It ended up being six months. I was like, ‘Bro!’ It became a whole run. You know, Dreamer’s the best. Dreamer has always been my godfather in this business. So kudos to him, he’s always looked out for me. But yeah, I was like, ‘Dreamer, you know I’m half-crippled. I can’t — that’s why I’m retiring. So I can’t go out here and have all these matches.’ Next thing you know, I’m in match after match after match after match.”

On Being Paired With Jordynne Grace:

“So [Dreamer’s] like, ‘Okay, you’re tagging with Jordynne.’ Great! Finally, I’m in a tag team match. Then he’s like, ‘Oh, now you’re having a singles [match] against Jordynne.’ ‘What? Now I’m going to die.'”

On Grace:

I mean, she’s where she’s supposed to be. And that’s all I can say about that. She’s exactly where she’s supposed to be, and her time is coming for the main roster. So all I have to say is just let’s just just keep our eyes peeled open for Jordynne Grace to be on the main roster very soon.”
