During a recent interview with Inside the Ropes, AEW star and former TBS Champion Julia Hart discussed her career, appearing at the AEW All In London event, her shift to her darker character, and more. Below are some highlights:

On Appearing at the First All In London show at Wembley Stadium

“I was a part of the first one. I did a segment where The Acclaimed actually Scissored me with Billy Gunn. So that was insane in front of 80,000 people. But this one, can hopefully be a bigger women’s match for us in The Triangle of Madness or something like that.”

Julia Hart on a Potential Match With Thekla

“Sure at that point throw Skye [Blue] in there as well. Make it a three-way. I’d use the same tactic I used on Kris Statlander. I pinned Skye to get the TBS Title. My first three-way I won, so the second one I think I can win also. That will be cool.”

On Her Character Shift

“I think it just needed to happen because I was so hung up on cheerleading. That’s all I knew for six years so I was trying too hard to put a cheerleader in wrestling instead of being a wrestler and just happen to be a cheerleader kind of thing. So I think this character shift really helped me become my full self as a wrestler and kind of leave like cheer behind and really helped me get to the next level. I started to feel more confident because I wasn’t trying to be a cheerleader, ‘A cheerleader wouldn’t that, a cheerleader wouldn’t do this.’ Okay but you’re not a cheerleader, you’re a wrestler. It definitely helped me, I needed that character shift.”

On Getting Advice From Malakai Black and Darby Allin

“At first everyone was kind of life, ‘The cheerleader wants to become the dark entity? What are you talking about?’ He just told me, ‘Go home and film something and I want to see what your vibe would be and if it would match my vibe.’ So I went home and worked with Tony Schiavone and some of the camera guys from AEW and they helped film something. And he was like, ‘Yeah you do get it. You’re more than just a cheerleader.’ So the advice was just like if you believe in something and no one else believes in it, you might just have to go and figure it out yourself and present it so that other people understand your vision. It’s hard to say in words, even when I did all those vignettes after I came back from my injury, shooting myself in the football field and all the weird stuff. When I said all those stuff before filming, I was like, ‘What are you talking about? Probably not.’ And then I film it, and I’m like, ‘Oh that’s amazing.’ So I think as humans we are just so much more visual. Darby Allin gave me the same advice because he also films those cool vignettes, ‘You just gotta go film something, if that’s what you believe in.’”

On Tony Khan Being On Board With Her Character Change

“Yeah, he was onboard. It did take a little bit for him to like, you know, he’s a man of a million things, he’s got going on. 200 different wrestlers trying to get his attention, so it took a while to get it presented to him, and you know when he gave it the green light, I was just so grateful. I remember after one of my matches, when I was in House of Black for a little bit, he hugged me right after my match and said, ‘You’re doing phenomenal.’ Getting that feedback from him, I was like I am doing something right. He’s just so great, I love working for Tony.”

Julia Hart was recently in action on AEW Collision: Slam Dunk Saturday. She and Sisters of Sin tag team partner Skye Blue lost a match against The Brawling Birds (Alex Windsor and Jamie Hayter).
