Jumanji 3 Starring The Rock Starts Filming Next Month

The Hollywood Reporter has a filming update for Jumanji 3, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. THR reports that the threequel starts filming next month, with Brittany O’Grady joining the returning cast of the last two films.

Jake Kasdan returns to once again direct the new sequel, having helmed the 2017 film, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, and its 2019 sequel, Jumanji: The Next Level. Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are all back to star in the feature. O’Gray, who previously appeared in the first season of the hit HBO series, White Lotus, joins the cast, along with Burn Gorman, who recently appeared in Beetlejuice and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. THR notes that the real-life versions of the characters, portrayed by Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blaine, and Morgan Turner, are also expected to reprise their roles.

Matt Tolmach, Johnson, Dany Garcia, Hiram Garcia, and Kasdan are producing the project, which has been in development for a while, until it finally received the green light from Sony Pictures to enter production mode. Plot details are currently being kept hidden, but the sequel’s script was reportedly penned by Jeff Pinkner and Scott Rosenberg.

The franchise hails from the 1981 picture book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. It was first adapted into a live-action film starring Robin Williams, grossing $100 million domestically and over $262 million worldwide. The Rock later breathed new life into the Jumanji franchise with his update, with the 2017 feature grossing $404.5 million domestically and $962 million worldwide. The 2019 sequel was also a box office smash, making $304 million domestically and $800 million worldwide.

As he embarks on working on Jumanji 3, The Rock is coming off his critically acclaimed performance as the real-life UFC Hall of Fame MMA fighter, Mark Kerr, in The Smashing Machine. The new entry installment now marks The Rock’s third entry in the film franchise. As noted, Jumanji 3 hits theaters on December 11, 2026.
