Trey Miguel’s AEW exit after signing alongside The Rascalz has been a big topic of conversation, and a new report has additional detail on the matter. As reported Miguel was let go after initially signing on board with his Rascalz stablemates to the company. Reports have come out that the decision to release him was made above AEW’s level and that it was in relation to past comments he made online.
The new report comes from Fightful Select and confirms that the decision was made above AEW. It was heavily implied by sources that the decision was from Warner Bros. Discovery. The sources noted that it was released to his past comment in 2020 on Facebook, a homophobic clapback against an online troll. Miguel immediately apologized for the post. The report says that despite speculation, there were no additional posts or incidents that factored into the matter, which would mean that his comments toward David Starr during their war of words weren’t considered.
The report notes that the Rascalz and Miguel have good relationships in AEW and that the reaction from inside the company was frustration. Several talent felt like there was a double standard, considering several prominent figures who have appeared on WBD programming have made controversial comments and weren’t released or prevented from signing contracts. The report notes that sources repeatedly insisted that no one in AEW got him fired, and TNA sources have said he had no problems in the company. Not a single contract in AEW has said they favored him being released.
Fightful sought comments from a number of WBD sources, and one source said on background, “I can’t speak to the validity of rumors, but I can’t say I agree the decision if true. If it were an unhealthy pattern of behavior, that’s cause for alarm, but that does not seem to be the case here.”
Miguel has said that he is taking a hiatus from wrestling in the aftermath.
