AEW TBS Champion Maya World recently opened up about a heartfelt conversation she had with her idol Mercedes Moné following their match at Forbidden Door.
Maya battled Mercedes in the final of this year’s Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. She wasn’t originally scheduled to be a part of the tournament and was later roped in as an injury replacement for Saree.
Maya defeated Athena in the semifinals to set up the summit clash with Mercedes at Forbidden Door. Despite her best efforts, she was unable to defeat her idol at the event. However, just sharing the ring with Mercedes is a memory that will stay with her forever.
During a recent conversation with Fightful, Maya World revealed she had a heart-to-heart with Mercedes Moné in the locker room after the match.
Here’s what she said:
“I don’t know what I expected, but it was kind of everything I expected or wanted and more. Obviously, not the wardrobe malfunction, but everything else. It was kind of surreal, and it didn’t settle in until after in the locker room when I had this heart-to-heart with her where I broke down crying like, ‘Thank you so much for everything you do in wrestling.’ That’s probably when it finally settled in for me. Also, her walking to the ramp… I was so numb to a lot of stuff because of course what happened, but it finally settled in as I saw her walking down the ramp.”

A month later, Maya defeated Hikaru Shida to capture the AEW TBS Championship. However, she isn’t slated to defend her gold at All In: London. She opened up about not being booked for the Wembley event during the same interview. Check her comments HERE.
