Note on Backstage Reaction to CM Punk Winning the WWE Title

Earlier this month, CM Punk made a surprising return to WWE TV, winning the WWE Undisputed Title from Sami Zayn at Monday Night Raw in Chicago. In the latest Fightful Select Answers Q&A, there’s some additional insight regarding the backstage reaction.

According to Sean Ross Sapp, in answering a fan question about the backstage reaction, it’s noted that there isn’t a constant uproar similar to that of the online wrestling community. Additionally, it’s said there were “some people with sour feelings,” but it’s not the way it would’ve been had Punk returned in 2023 and immediately won the title.

Sapp also notes that most of the talent in the WWE locker room who work with Punk work with him amicably, but there was “nothing too bad” in regards to his title victory.

As previously noted by WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, CM Punk is expected to have a long title run as WWE Undisputed Champion. Also, it’s said that NBCUniversal has been pushing for Punk’s presence on SmackDown for “well over a year,” viewing the 47-year-old wrestler as a premier star.
