What’s next for former WWE Champion Sheamus? As previously reported, the 48-year-old wrestler is said to be leaving WWE, with WWE putting his profile in the alumni section of WWE.com. It begs the question: Is Sheamus bound for AEW? Bryan Alvarez addressed the topic on yesterday’s Wrestling Observer Live.

While speaking to Tom Lawlor about Sheamus, Alvarez said he’s spoken to people in AEW who don’t sound keen on Sheamus signing with the promotion. He stated, “I did talk to a lot of people today in AEW who were like, ‘Are we really going to take this guy?'” Alvarez continued, “And let me make this abundantly clear, okay? Everybody I talked to, like to a person who was like, ‘I really like Sheamus. I really like him.’ But the basic gist of it is like there are so many people under contract. And there are so many people that already can’t even get on TV, and we’re going to hire another 48-year-old?”

Alvarez noted that everyone has great ideas about Sheamus potentially signing with AEW and possibly joining the Death Riders, stating, “Like everyone’s got ideas like you know Sheamus and Cesaro being in the Death Riders and doing Matt, which would be great.”

Alvarez stated that with AEW already likely signing The New Day (Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston), AEW signing another major former WWE name just means less TV time for the large group of people already under contract who aren’t being featured regularly

He explained, “Nobody had anything against Sheamus personally. It was just sort of like, ‘Here comes another one,’ because The New Day is probably coming in, and then Sheamus would be coming in, and that’s three more spots where people who have been there for a long time, or who should be on the way up, or who should be younger, you know, they’re going to be iced out again. People weren’t really thrilled about that idea.”

Will Sheamus Sign With AEW

Sheamus is reportedly still under WWE contract. It’s unknown where he will be landing next. It was reported by Fightful that people in AEW didn’t know Sheamus’ WWE exit was coming.
