Sami Zayn ruined Kevin Owens’ shot at the Undisputed WWE Championship, allowing CM Punk to retain the title on WWE Smackdown. The main event of Friday night’s show saw Owens challenge Punk for the top title, a match he had earned in his return match at WWE SummerSlam.

Zayn, who was part of the match at SummerSlam, has been protesting his treatment for some time. Punk and Owens battled for almost 19 minutes, with the end coming as Zayn came down to ringside. He threw Punk into the ringpost and rolled him into the ring, where Owens hit a Stunner and covered for a nearfall. Zayn tossed the title belt into the ring but Owens, noticing him, chose not to use the title. Zayn hopped up on the apron and argued with Owens, who handed Zayn back the title. Zayn then hit Owens with the title and Punk, who had recovered, hit a Go 2 Sleep for the pinfall victory. After the match, Zayn laid out Punk with the title and then walloped Owens with it, before delivering a second shot to Punk.

You can see clips from the WWE Smackdown main event below. Punk has been Undisputed WWE Champion for 47 days, having won the title from Zayn on the July 6th episode of WWE Raw.
