Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins has credited Bobby Roode for coming up with the idea of him dropping his crutches ahead of the MITB cash-in at SummerSlam 2025. Rollins’ “Ruse of the Century” was a major talking point in WWE last summer.
After appearing to be injured during his match with LA Knight at Saturday Night’s Main Event in July 2025, Rollins showed up on crutches at the end of the SummerSlam 2025 Night One main event, in which CM Punk dethroned Gunther as World Heavyweight Champion.
Seth initially teased going backstage, but The Visionary then dropped his crutches in iconic fashion and stormed to the ring with the briefcase, ultimately securing the World Heavyweight Title from Punk.
During a recent appearance on ESPN’s Highlights with Omar, Seth Rollins revealed that retired pro wrestler and WWE producer Bobby Roode came up with the idea of him dropping crutches.
“None of this was rehearsed. Talked about it briefly. I can’t take all the credit for the crutch tossing. It was… I’ll take all the credit when it’s my idea. The idea for the crutch drop was actually a Bobby Roode idea, who’s one of the incredible performers in our industry, or was and now is a great producer backstage. Honestly, this came off smoother than I expected. The crutch drop, even the jacket, the handoff for the briefcase was smooth,” Rollins said.
