The Smackdown! Summary 7.21.06

Welcome to Friday night Smackdown!

Your hosts are Michael Cole and JBL.

Teddy Long is out to address the Batista/ Mark Henry situation. Since Henry is out for an indefinite amount of time, Batista is the de facto #1 contender for the Heavyweight title. But Mr. Kennedy interrupts and challenges Batista for the #1 contendership at the Great American Bash. Batista comes out and accepts and we’ve got ourselves a match at the GAB.

Still to come tonight: US title rematch Bobby Lashley vs Finlay

He gets a crazy reverse figure four on Kendrick while Noble helps him get leverage behind the refs back. Kendrick gets the ropes. Kendrick fights back with rights and elbows and gets a kick to the back of the head. London and Noble are in! While the ref gets London out of the ring, Noble helps Kash counter sliced bread #2 into the deadlevel as the Pitbulls pick up the win.

Winner: Kid Kash

In the back Teddy Long asks Chavo to reconsider his retirement. King Booker and Queen Sharmell bust in and demand a match with Rey Mysterio tonight. Teddy says he will consider.

Lockup and into the corner we go. Lashley gets a takedown and an early pin attempt for 1. Finlay complains that he hurt his elbow but then jumps Lashley once he drops his guard. Funny moment as the ref asks Finlay “I thought you were hurt” and Finlay just smiles. Lashley takes over with some shoulder blocks and suplex for 2. Finlay gets some sharp uppercuts and a short end clothesline. Submission hold followed by elbow drops for a 2 count. Finlay tells the ref to “stop touching me.” Good stuff. Finlay stays on the offensive and tosses Lashley outside. Lashley finally gets some offense but as he is going up the stairs Finlay yanks him down right onto the knee he injured last month. Back in Finlay goes right after the knee locking in a couple leg submissions. Lashley gets a sloppy enziguri but Finlay picks the leg again. Lashley fires back with a pair of clotheslines and body slam followed by a military press slam into a gut buster. Regal is in and Finlay gets a clothesline and here comes Lil’ bastard and Finlay uses him as a weapon. Finlay back to the knee but Lashley fights back! Belly to belly suplex by Lashley. Another suplex. He’s ready for the spear but Regal trips him and gets in some cheap shots. Finlay unties the turnbuckle, distracting the ref and gets a chair from Regal. Lashley kicks it into his face! Regal is in with a chair- spear to Regal! but Finlay draws the DQ by hitting Lashley with the chair. Afterwards, things spill outside where Finlay and Lil’ bastard team up on Lashley and get in a couple shots with the shillelagh.

Winner: Lashley via DQ

Next is the Diva dance off.

The Miz is out and the Diva dance off is under way. Layla was the only one the could actually dance but J.T. wins anyway.

In the back Sylvan babbles on about Quebec to Matt Hardy, Funaki, and Tatanka. Then he just walks off like the cameras weren’t still rolling.
