Tomoaki Honma Announces His Upcoming Retirement Slated for 2027

Per NJPW1972.com, wrestler and longtime NJPW veteran, Tomoaki Honma, announced to his hometown crowd at today’s non-televised NJPW event in Yamagata, Japan that he will be retiring from the ring next year. The report notes that Honma made the decision after recent medical examinations of his neck, stemming from an earlier injury he suffered in 2017.

NJPW wrote that Honma “announced that after recent physical examinations raised more concerns about his neck, he has taken the decision to retire.” The announcement continued, “Honma said that he would work to improve his condition enough for a retirement match in his hometown next year, ending his career at 30 years in the business.”

Tomoaki Honma has been a regular performer in NJPW since the mid-2000s. During his tenure, he became a one-time IWGP Tag Team Champion with Togi Makabe, winning the belts at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 10 at the Tokyo Dome in 2016.

More details on Honma’s retirement date and final match will be revealed at a later date.
