Tony Khan commented on CM Punk and his contributions to AEW during the AEW All Out post-show media scrum. Khan wouldn’t comment on any possible no-complete clause Punk might have (h/t WrestlingInc).
On if CM Punk has a non-compete clause as part of his AEW release: “I don’t want to discuss the terms of the separation, in that sense.
On CM Punk’s contributions to AEW: “I think it’s best to say — first of all, I very much want to thank CM Punk, Phil, for everything he did for AEW as a wrestler. But, I don’t think it was an easy decision for anybody on the discipline committee or for the outside counsel or for me to do something like that. But I do think it was the right move, and as far as what’s going to happen in the future, I can’t speak to that. I’m not the attorneys who interpret all that language.”
Khan was also asked about what he has learned from the CM Punk situation, but Khan largely ignored the question. Adam Cole, who was seated next to Khan when the question was asked, noted that the locker room was “stoked” and “ready to go” for All In and All Out and that they’re “excited for the future.”
CM Punk was terminated by AEW over the weekend, and rumor has it that he will be giving an “explosive” response to the news soon.
