Tony Khan has revealed that Andy “The Butcher” Williams had been in conversation with All Elite Wrestling in recent weeks before his unfortunate passing last weekend.
Williams, 48, passed away last Saturday after collapsing at an indie event. Ahead of tonight’s episode of AEW Collision, which is set to honor the life and career of The Butcher, Tony Khan went live on social media to reveal the card for the special episode.
During the live stream, Tony revealed that Williams had held talks with his team in August to share his ideas on how he could possibly contribute toward the company in a non-wrestling role. Khan said he was “interested” in having Andy contribute to AEW as a backstage personality.
“In recent weeks, Andy had been in conversations with AEW about things outside of the ring. Andy passed away as a very young man at 48 years old. In recent weeks, he had said, ‘I don’t think I’m gonna be able to wrestle forever.’ Andy had ideas for AEW promotions and how he could contribute backstage. Andy just had a few weeks ago, in August, Andy had meetings with my staff that I set up. I was interested in Andy continuing here out of the ring,” Tony said.
