Update on WWE’s Plans For The Universal Title Match at The Royal Rumble

According to Dave Meltzer and Wrestling Observer Radio (via wrestlinginc.com), the plan coming out of last night’s Raw is indeed for Brock Lesnar to defend the Universal Title against both Kane and Braun Strowman at the Royal Rumble. Kane and Strowman faced off in a #1 contender’s match on last night’s Raw, but the match ended in a double countout. Vince McMahon himself decided on the Triple Threat match, so unless he changes his mind, that will be the match they will go with.

There had been reports that WWE didn’t want to go back to a Lesnar vs. Strowman singles match, so this looks to be WWE’s way out of it while still positioning Strowman as a top act. Brock Lesnar will be on Raw next week, and it’s likely then that the match will be made official.
