Note On Why AEW Moved Kenny Omega vs. MJF To AEW Dynamite

Kenny Omega won the AEW World Championship from MJF on last week’s Dynamite, and a new report has a note on why it was moved to Dynamite from Redemption. As reported at the start of the month, the original plan was to have Omega vs. MJF as the main event for this month’s new AEW PPV and not on Dynamite. There has been a lot of speculation as to why, and today’s Fightful Select Answers Q&A has a bit of context on the matter.
According to the report, sources in the company have indicated that MJF pushed for the match to be moved to Dynamite. As noted, Omega was planned to beat MJF for the title for a while, with the Q&A saying that it’s been the plan for “at least” five months. It was noted that the World Title succession of MJF to Darby Allin, back to MJF, and then to Omega has been planned for that long.
AEW has always been big on delivering big matches on TV, as most of their money comes from their TV deal. Sean Ross Sapp added that he thinks (key word there being thinks; i.e., this is speculation) that AEW wanted to move more tickets for All In with the title change setting up Omega vs. Will Ospreay.
Omega is set to have a championship celebration on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
